‘They always talk’: Canelo hits back after clinical win

Canelo Alvarez has continued his dominance in the super-middleweight division, retaining his unified world title against Edgar Berlanga on Sunday (AEST).
The 34-year-old knocked down his rival in the third round and never looked back, dismantling his opponent in clinical fashion to retain the WBC, WBO and WBA straps.
The fight went the distance as Berlanga showed his toughness, but the final result was never in doubt as Alvarez claimed the 118-109, 118-109, 117-110 unanimous decision.

Speaking after the fight, the Mexican legend shut down claims his career was winding down and fired back at criticisms of his choice of opponent.
“Now what are they gonna say” he said.
“I only fight younger fighters? Before they said I only fought older fighters. Now what are they gonna say? They always talk – I’m the best fighter in the world.”
Erlanga was previously undefeated before stepping up to fight Alvarez, but proved no match for the champion across 12 rounds.
In a classy post-match moment, Alvarez even had some words of wisdom for his rival.
“Keep going, you are a great fighter,” he said.
“Keep working, keep busy and keep training. Fight a lot, if you want to be champion.
“Keep focused my friend.”
Alvarez’s fight in Las Vegas was going head-to-head with UFC 306 down the road, with both sports honouring Mexican athletes on the country’s day of independence.
